GAZE: WOMEN LOVING WOMEN vs GIRL ON GIRL

Over the past 100 years The Male Gaze has impacted the way queer women have been represented in film. It’s Common that when lesbians are depicted, it’s through a hetero-normative Lense that objectifies the lesbian identity. When analysing The Male Gaze in queer film, a fundamental part of how a film will be perceived is who is directing the film, their goal and how they want audiences to perceive a lesbian relationship (Scanlon and Lewis, 2017).

This publication aims to explore how The Male Gaze can be visually represented through colour and formation of a publication and by taking small snippets of scenes and text from a research document, explain how The Male Gaze can impact how people view the lesbian Identity.

A concertina was a great way to represent the two ‘sides’ or ‘perspectives’ that im exploring. The publication can be read in two ways, One highlighting The Male Gaze and the other representing how a queer director can have an impact on the queer love story.
